Renew or Add Prescription from Medication List

The Renew feature allows you to copy an existing medication that has been signed and submitted and use it as a template for a new prescription.

To renew prescription medications in OneView:

Step 1: Go to the Clinical Summary tab under the appropriate patient’s chart

Step 2: Select the appropriate prescription medication from the list and hover the cursor over the medication

Step 3: Click the Renew icon to the right of the prescription medication

Step 4: Reconcile medication, if needed

NOTE: The option to "Discontinue" or "Keep" the medication will be available and optional. If discontinue is selected, this will eliminate the need to manually discontinue the medication if you want to change the current medication dose.

Step 5: Modify the details of the prescription, if needed

NOTE: Fields with an asterisk are required.  The Pharmacy field will default to the most recently used pharmacy by that patient but can be modified by clicking in the field for pharmacy management options.

Step 6: Click SAVE

NOTE: SAVE & NEW will save the current prescription and then open the Add RX screen to allow you to complete another prescription.

After renewing the prescription, it appears on the medication list where the prescription has to be reviewed, signed, and an action selected for the prescription to be complete.

NOTE: A warning triangle icon will be displayed next to the medication on the Medications list if the original medication fails to discontinue (due to technical issues). On hover, the alert displays: "RX failed for discontinue." The medication must be manually discontinued.

The “Add” feature allows you to create a prescription from the medication list and avoid scrolling to the top of the page to use the “ADD RX” button.
